U.S. Imposes Aluminum and Steel Tariffs And E.U. Levies Retaliatory Tariffs
2025-03-12

Dear Valued Customer,

This is to inform you that the Trump administration has imposed on all countries a 25% tariff on all aluminum and steel imports into the United States. The tariff, which took effect this morning, was met with immediate retaliatory tariffs from the EU.

Specifically, the new tariffs imposed by the Trump Administration removes all nation-specific tariff exemptions that had previously been granted. The new tariffs also increase aluminum import duties from 10% to 25%. The tariff on aluminum and steel also stacks on top of previously imposed tariffs on imports from China, bringing the total duty on Chinese aluminum and steel up to 70%.

The European Union has responded to the new tariff by imposing tariffs on up to $28 billion in U.S. exports, including boats, bourbon and motorcycles.

This continues to be a very fluid situation, and we will update you as additional information becomes available. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to an OEC customs brokerage consultant with any questions.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
